Wind Ensemble Of Western Connecticut To Perform At Naugatuck Community College

WATERBURY — A spring concert of the Wind Ensemble of Western Connecticut at Naugatuck Valley Community College will be performed on Tuesday, May 16, at 7:30 pm. The program, “Satchmo Meets Fiddler on Jupiter,” will be in the college’s Fine Arts Center, 750 Chase Parkway.

The Wind Ensemble of Western Connecticut is a 35-piece group of volunteer musicians, both amateur and professional. In January, the group expanded to include student music majors.

Richard Gard, the music program coordinator of NVCC, is the music director of the Wind Ensemble.

The May 16 concert will include show themes from Fiddler on the Roof and Les Miserables, The Planet Jupiter by Holst, Louis Armstrong favorites, and more. Soloist Jeffrey Reinhardt of Newtown will perform Rimsky-Korsakov’s Variatons on a Theme by Glinka for Oboe and Military Band. Mr Reinhardt has been a long-time member of the Wind Ensemble, and is currently a student at The Juilliard School.

The concert is open to the public. Admission will be available by donation at the door. For more information, call Mary Lander at 264-1130.
