Raise The Price Of DUI
Raise The Price Of DUI
To the Editor:
Each year at this time, The Bee publishes the fact that the Newtown police will conduct a number of sobriety check points on an unspecified local road! Each week of each year, The Bee publishes on page four at least four DUIs! Something is wrong in that the method is not working to decrease the number of DUIs in Newtown!
During the sobriety checks, why not impose a fine of ten times the cost of running the program divided by the number of DUIs convicted? Then the state gets half of the fines and Newtown the other half!
During the rest of the year, the fines could be ten times the current for each DUI, and the income divided equally between the state and Newtown.
