Bringing Home A Trophy

To the Editor:

The D15 cheerleaders and their families would like to take a moment to thank the Newtown community for their support and generosity. Over Thanksgiving weekend the cheerleaders competed at the AYC New England Regional Cheer Competition in Worcester, Mass. Through hard work and determination they managed to place second at this competition despite injuries suffered by four cheerleaders in the weeks prior. This win allowed the team to compete at the national level in Orlando, Fla., on December 10. We are happy to report that in Florida, the girls came in second place with their best performance to date. They promised to bring a trophy back to Newtown and certainly did. Many of these girls have been cheering together for many years, some as far back as third grade, and this was an incredible end to their time with the AYFC organization.

Between Thanksgiving weekend and our departure on December 8, the team was in full force trying to raise money to defer the cost of the trip. The town was gracious and giving and we want everyone to know how appreciative we are of their generosity. The following businesses allowed us to leave a can at their establishment, had cheerleaders out front soliciting from their customers, donated proceeds from their sales or made a donation to the team. They were: My Place Restaurant, Salon Michele, Ace Hardware, Katherine’s Kitchen, Blue Colony Diner, St Rose Parish, Newtown United Methodist Church, Newtown Youth Academy, Edmond Town Hall, AYFC, Nina’s Nails, Pizza Place, Bagel Delight, Newtown Hardware, Carminuccio’s, Newtown Deli, Misty Vale, Newtown Youth Basketball, Dodgingtown Deli, Sippin Oil, Caldwell & Walsh Building Construction, Inc, Preferred Utilities Mfg Corp, Worldwide Coverage Corp.

Please put these businesses at the top of your list when shopping in town. It is important to support those who so kindly support the youth in this community.

Thank you very much!
