Occupation: I am the owner of Red Horizon in Sandy Hook, a company that develops dynamic database driven Web sites. It’s a fun job. Though I have been working on the Internet for six years, I have owned my business for two years. It has been located in Newtown for six months. I received my bachelor’s degree in psychology from Marist College in New York. I am currently in a master’s degree program in computer science at Sacred Heart University.

How Long in Newtown: I have lived here since September 2000. Previously, I lived in Redding. I was born in Minneapolis, Minn., then my family moved to California for five years. I have been in this area since 1973 when we moved to Southbury.

Biggest Change Seen in Town: Though I lived in Southbury, I remember Newtown from 1973 when we would come to Edmond Town Hall to the movies. It was a quiet, peaceful, quaint little town. I see changes from the 1970s. Newtown has grown. There’s more businesses, more hustle, bustle. It’s a busy town, but we love Newtown.

Family: My husband, Gus, and I have been married almost seven years.

Pets: We have two dogs, Jordy, 10, a miniature schnauser, and Kes, 3, a lab mix.

Hobbies: I don’t have much time for hobbies. I once enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, needlepoint, and crocheting. We like to go to movies, and do a lot of walking. My hobby is my business.

Favorite Books and Authors: I love to read. I’m a big reader of novels, and, of course, technical manuals. I’m pretty eclectic. I like historical, action, and science fiction novels. Actually I consume anything I can get my hands on. One of my favorite authors is John Grisham.

Favorite TV Show: The X-Files and NYPD Blue. I only have time for one show a night. My husband and I are both workaholics.

Most Vivid Memory of Newtown: The one thing that really impacted us in a positive way when we moved here last year was all the horse farms. We hadn’t really explored the neighborhood before we moved in, and when we started exploring we found so many horse farms. I thought this is so cool. It’s very New England. We drive along the roads and see people riding horses. We have a horse farm down the street from us. It’s one of the things we really love about Newtown, how the old mixes with the new. It’s a good balance, charming but progressive.

Favorite Vacation Spot: There’s no particular spots we go regularly. I always wanted to go to Greece. We may be going this year. We like going to B&Bs in the Berkshires in Massachusetts for the colors. We didn’t get to go last fall when we were moving into this house, but when we looked around us at all the wonderful colors, we realized we didn’t have to go, we had it right here.

Personal Philosophy: I’m very concerned and try to guide myself in terms of personal health. I am being more open to eating natural foods and to naturopathic medicine and other alternatives to the way we usually live our life. These feelings have tended to flow into my business with different approaches. I tend to think in terms of what the end result will be, and what’s the most appropriate method to get there. I’m always trying to find alternatives, looking beyond what other people think I should do. I believe if you get input from customers and sources, the right road will come to you. I see so many organizations that do things a certain way because they have always done things this way. People change, businesses changes. Look at how people communicate now, how many faxes and e-mails are received. My approach to life and my business is, let’s look outside the box and do it differently. Go beyond what is already known.
