Robert âTimâ Bruce will offer a look at the history of the clock industry and an examination of wooden-works clocks at the societyâs presentation. Mr Bruce will explain how a clock works, characteristics of different woods and their advantages and disadvantages for clock gears, how to care for a clock, and will bring four of his own wooden-works clocks to explain the process of making them and how they work.
Tim Bruce is a retired electrical engineer with a long interest in clocks. About 15 years ago he began making wooden clocks. His early failures pushed him into studying gear technology and improving his woodworking skills, and by trial and error as well as by wide reading he has become a proficient clockmaker in a tradition closely associated with Connecticut. His presentation will give the audience a better appreciation of clocks and clockmaking.
