On Wednesday, December 4, at 1:30 pm, The Society of Creative Arts of Newtown (SCAN) will host Clayton Buchanan to critique the work of members.

This program will begin at 1:30 pm at Newtown Meeting House, 31 Main Street (at the flagpole). The public is invited to observe this interesting process and SCAN members are asked to bring one painting to this valuable critique.

Mr Buchanan will have a brief conservation with each artist to see and understand the image from the artist’s viewpoint.

Clayton Buchanan paints those pieces of nature that speak to him through light, color, structure, and emotion. He has been fascinated with the Impressionist color concept for over 40 years and is still visually learning from nature. Pastels are his medium. Applying these colors layer upon layer with energized strokes enhances his visual imagery.

Mr Buchanan’s paintings are in private and corporate collections. He has done numerous portrait commissions, and is currently conducting demonstrations and workshops.

He has won awards on a regional and national level including The F. Luis Mora Award for Pastels, Kent Art Association President Show, 2013.

Memberships include The Pastel Society of America, Guild of Boston Artists, Connecticut Pastel Society, and Kent Art Association.

Mr Buchanan studied Impressionist painting with Henry Hensche in Provincetown, Mass.; and figure and portrait painting with William Draper, Art Students League, New York. He has his studio in Newburgh, N.Y.

Reservations are not needed for SCAN programs, and admission is free. For additional information contact Ruth Newquist at 203-426-6654.

Clayton Buchanan will be the guest artist for the next Society of Creative Arts of Newtown program, a critique of works by members of the artists' collective.
