VW Rollover

Motorist Daniel O’ Keefe, 18, of Bridgeport was driving a 1997 Volkswagen Jetta eastward near 12 Schoolhouse Hill Road at about 3:20 pm November 27, when the vehicle was traveling too fast and O’Keefe lost control of it, according to police. The auto struck a rock wall along the eastbound road shoulder and then flipped over, coming to rest in an upright position, police said.

O’Keefe was not injured in the crash. Police issued him an infraction ticket for a turn violation.

Sandy Hook Collision

Police report a two-vehicle accident about 3 pm December 4 at the intersection of Washington Avenue and Pearl Street.

Motorist Stephen Greytak, 16, of 47 Buttonball Drive was driving a 1992 Chevrolet Lumina northward on Washington Avenue, as motorist Luke Schwerin, 25, of 17 Washington Avenue, who was driving a 1997 Dodge Ram pickup truck, was slowing down for a stop sign on Pearl Street at its intersection with Washington Avenue, police said.

The Chevrolet then turned right onto Pearl Street and collided with the Dodge, police said. There were no injuries. Police issued Greytak a written warning for a turn violation.

Police charged Schwerin with driving under suspension. Police released Schwerin on a promise to appear in Danbury Superior Court December 18 to answer the charge.

Bridgeport Man

While on patrol at about 1:11 am on December 5, police said they spotted motorist Aguinaido Santana, 34, of Bridgeport driving over the center line of South Main Street. Police stopped Santana to investigate and charged him with driving under suspension. Police released Santana on a promise to appear December 18 in Danbury Superior Court.

Audi Vs Sign

Motorist Stephen Klein, 36, of 36 Scudder Road was driving a 1997 Audi A-4 eastward on Mt Pleasant Road, near Johnnie Cake Lane, about 8:48 am December 6, when he lost control of the auto on the snow-covered road, spun around, and collided with a sign along the right road shoulder, police said.

Klein was not injured. Police took no enforcement action.

Route 302 Crash

Motorist Douglas Victor Dunleavy, III, 16, of 50 Platts Hill Road, was driving a 1993 Ford Explorer westward on Route 302 at about 9:28 am December 6, when he lost control of the vehicle in the snow, entered the eastbound lane and then drove off the eastbound road shoulder, police said.

Dunleavy was not injured. Police issued Dunleavy a written warning for making a restricted turn.

Plowing Accident

Snowplow driver George C. Birch, 58, of 9 Baldwin Road, who was driving a 2001 town-owned dump truck with a snowplow attached, at about 6:18 pm December 5, was backing up on Birch Rise Drive during a snow storm, when the plow blade struck a 2001 Ford Windstar that was parked on the westbound road shoulder, police said. The Ford is owned by William Morrison of Omaha, Neb. There were no injuries, police said.

Passat Accident

Motorist Eric Nielsen, 63, of Danbury was driving a 1999 Volkswagen Passat southward near 41 West Street about 2:48 pm December 5, when Nielsen saw a vehicle in the road that was backing up to enter a driveway, police said.

Nielsen then attempted to pass that vehicle and crossed over the road’s center line, but struck a granite driveway marker along the northbound road shoulder, police said.

The Passat did not make contact with the other vehicle, which is owned by Peter A. Spath, Jr, 30, of 63 Riverside Road, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said that Nielsen was passing in a no-passing zone.

I-84 Ice Mishap

State police report that while traveling westward on Interstate 84, west of Exit 10,  about 1:40 pm December 7, a large piece of ice fell off the trailer of a tractor-trailer truck that was driven by David Craig, 40, of Elliot Lake, Ontario, Canada.

The falling ice struck the windshield of a 1999 Chevrolet auto driven by Mark Stowell, 36, of 45 Bennetts Bridge Road, state police said. The impact damaged the windshield.

There were no injuries. State police said Craig failed to secure a load.

Mitsubishi Crash

Motorist Shaun Deacon, 25, of Danbury was driving a 1992 Mitsubishi Mirage eastward on Interstate 84, in the left lane of two lanes, about seven-tenths of a mile east of Exit 11, at about 3:43 pm December 6, when he lost control of the auto and struck steel-cable guardrailing along the left road shoulder, state police said.

The impact damaged about 75 feet of guard cabling. State police said Deacon was traveling too fast for conditions.

School Fence Damaged

Motorist Ruby F. Beer, 63, of 30 Maltbie Road was driving a 1988 Jeep Wagoneer westward on Wasserman Way at about 10:11 pm December 4, when the vehicle went off the westbound road shoulder and struck a chain-link fence at Reed Intermediate School at the intersection of Wasserman Way and Trades Lane, damaging a 120-foot-long section of the fence, police said. Beer was not injured in the collision, police said. After investigating the accident, police took no enforcement action.

Stereo Theft

Sometime between 12:45 and 5 pm on December 3, someone forcibly entered a motor vehicle parked at The Taunton Press at 63 Main Street, police said. The offender stole a car stereo, which was installed in the vehicle, damaging the vehicle in the process. Police are investigating the case of larceny and vandalism and ask anyone with information about the crime to contact them at 426-5841.

Toy Found

Police said a passerby found a toy on the sidewalk in front of Brooks Pharmacy at 5 Queen Street. The toy consists of red and yellow “little tykes” riding in an orange car, police said. The owner may claim the toy by contacting Sergeant Darlene Froehlich at the police station at 3 Main Street.

Currituck Coat

On November 18, a red overcoat with red buttons sized for a toddler was found near 159 Currituck Road, police said. The coat is a size 3-T. The owner may claim the coat the police station.

Hawleyville Mishap

Motorist Darnell Randall, 42, of Brookfield was driving a 1997 Ford station wagon northward on Hawleyville Road at about 11:15 pm December 5, when Randall lost control of the vehicle on the snow-covered road and struck more than 50 feet of wooden fencing at 59 Hawleyville Road, and then hit a tree, police said. Randall was not injured. Police issued Randall a written warning for making improper turn.

Fairfield Hills Collision

Motorist Allison Hornak, 16, of 32 Great Quarter Road, who was driving a 1995 Toyota Camry eastward on Wasserman Way about 2:30 pm December 8, failed to stop for a red traffic signal and collided with motorist Dorothy Lapnow, 69, of Southbury, who was driving a 1997 Nissan Maxima northward on Trades Lane, police said.

Lapnow bumped her head in the crash, police said. Police issued Hornak a written warning for a traffic signal violation.

Snowy Crash

Motorist Elizabeth Parsons of 12 Stone Fence Lane, who was driving a 2001 Ford Excursion down the steep driveway of Hots Shots II at 130 Mt Pleasant Road in Hawleyville during a snowstorm at about 7:47 pm December 5, slid down the driveway and collided with a 2001 Ford F-250 pickup truck, which was being driven westward on Mt Pleasant Road by Kathryn Lasky of Danbury, police said. There were no injuries or enforcement actions taken, police said.

South Main Accident

Motorist Tracy Nashel, 38, of 26 Lake Road, who was driving a 2002 Chrysler Town and Country minivan, was exiting a driveway at 173 South Main Street at The Fraser-Woods School to make a left turn onto southbound South Main Street at about 8:50 am December 4, when Nashel drove into the path of southbound motorist Angel Tapia, 33, of Danbury, who was driving a 1994 Toyota Paseo, resulting in a collision, police said.

There were no injuries. Police issued Nashel a written warning for failure to grant the right of way.
