Wolfpack Battles In Tournament

The Newtown Wolfpack baseball team traveled to Rehoboth Beach Delaware to compete in the Festival of Fools 11U Tournament, at Sports At The Beach, recently. The Wolfpack, in their first game action of the young season, met the eventual champion Delaware Rockets in the first game. Showing some rust, the Wolfpack fell to the Rockets 10-1.

The Newtown bats came alive in the second game, against the Mid-Atlantic Shockers, scoring 8 runs, with multi-hit games from Jamey Hobar and Kyle Roche, and a clutch RBI double by Shane Demers.  But, the defense still was struggling and the Wolfpack fell 17-8.

Sunday was a new day and with some game experience under their belts, the Wolfpack athletes played much better. Facing the Delaware Rebels, the defense and pitching was stellar and the bats put up enough runs to get a hard-earned 5-2 victory. Kyle Roche, Ben Terry, and Robert Murray shut down the Rebel bats. Jack Miller and Tess Davenport each had two hits each to supply the offense.

The final game, against the Sea Dogs from New Jersey, featured explosive offense, with multi-hit games from Luke Melillo, Josh Dunn, and Jack Miller, including a grand slam from Miller.

Miller and Cole Demirjian shut down the Sea Dog bats and the defense was solid, resulting in an 11-2 victory.
