Back-To-School Safety Tips
Town police are emphasizing school bus safety and the motoring publicâs need to use seat belts and child safety seats as the new school year starts.
Police said they plan to monitor school bus safety, observing children at school bus stops and watching as children enter and leave school buses.
Police remind motorists that they must stop when a school busâs flashing red lights are on, even if that bus is in a parking lot.
Police said they plan to use radar to catch speeding motorists. Police added they plan to use their large radar speed display unit to show motorists their oncoming speed as they approach the radar device.
Police also urge the motoring public to use seat belts and child safety seats to save lives and reduce injuries in accidents.
State law requires all front-seat passengers to wear seat belts, even if a vehicle is equipped with air bags.
Any passenger between ages 4 and 15, whether they are in the front seat or rear seat, must wear seat belts.
Also, children under age 4 must use child safety seats.
Seat belt violations carry a $37 fine. Child safety seat violations bear a $60 fine.   Â
