Town Police Plan Fundraiser For Special Olympics
In a fundraiser for the upcoming Connecticut Special Olympics, town police officers will be at the Dunkinâ Donuts shop at Newtown Shopping Village at 6 Queen Street on Saturday, May 13, from 9 to 11 am.
They will be participating in the âTip-A-Copâ event for the Special Olympics. Officers will assist the Dunkinâ Donuts staff, accept donations from the public, and sell merchandise to support Special Olympics Connecticut.
In June, the 2006 Law Enforcement Torch Run will carry the Special Olympicsâ âFlame of Hopeâ for more than 640 miles in 100 Connecticut municipalities preceding the Special Olympicsâ opening ceremony.
The Newtown leg of the Torch Run will be held on Friday, June 9. It will extend from the Bethel/Newtown town line on Route 302 eastward to Exit 10 of Interstate 84.
Additional information on the project is available on the Internet at: www.soct.org. Newtown Police Patrol Officer Jeff Silver is the local team captain for the project. He can be reached at 426-5841 for details.
