As we step up and cast our votes this coming Tuesday, weâll be united as a community, of friends, neighbors, co-workers, but most importantly as active citizens staking our claim in the democratic process. I am always reminded of the great pride my own dad took in making his choice, reading and gaining counsel from people in the community prior to closing the curtain and pulling the lever.
For some reason, this year, I feel that very same lump of pride. Iâve studied the issues, the candidates. Iâve read and Iâve gained counselâ¦in as open-minded a fashion as I could for a feisty Irish woman. Iâve had many a spirited conversation with friends and family. And what rings true now, rang true for my father as well. It is not only my right, but my responsibility to come in the end to an informed decision. This process is the highest honor in the land. A healthy democracy requires conversation.
The decision to vote for Chris Lyddy was not one that was hard to come by. A vote for Chris is a vote for the wonderful system of education that has supported my own children, making them capable young adults. A vote for Chris is also a vote for the growing needs of our seniors in a time where we, like many other towns, face unprecedented taxes. A vote for Chris is a vote to unify our hometown and its fine citizenry. Chris is a quietly passionate individual. He, like his own father, has great pride in his country and great faith in its people. He will listen and represent you well! Chris will unite us through our conversations. And that, in the end, is what we need here in Newtown: a chance to be heard and a healthy dialogue to keep us actively engaged. Chris Lyddy is a change-maker, with a clear sense of purpose and the energy and vitality to carry that out. To Chris, you are his number one mission, Newtown, Connecticut.
I donât know about you, but I do miss the drama of the curtain on Election Day. But one thingâs for certain, when I lift my flair pen, it will be Chris Lyddy Iâm voting for. I hope you will join me in my vote. A vote for Chris is a vote for our future!
With great respect,
Gael Lynch
