A Break!

To the Editor:

Talk about pouring more salt in the wound... I am referring to the fact that our school district has added an additional two days to the end of the year school calendar, to make up for the two days that our children lost last week due to the storm! So instead of our children getting out for summer vacation on June 21, it is now extended to June 25. Please, give our children a break!

Didn’t many of our children suffer enough last week by going days without power and running water? Why then, must the district feel so inclined to insist that the days missed be made up? It is my understanding that the Town of Ridgefield declared the storm a “natural disaster” and is not requiring the students to make up the two days missed. Perhaps our school district can rethink their decision and follow Ridgefield’s example. After all, children are only children for a little while...let’s ensure that they enjoy it to the fullest!
