Pickin’ & Fiddlin’ Contest Returns To Roxbury July 8

ROXBURY — The Roxbury Volunteer Fire Department has announced its annual “Pickin’ & Fiddlin’ Contest” will be held on Saturday, July 8.

Contestants may begin registering at 4:30 pm, and the festivities will begin soon after. A total of $2,500 in prize money will be donated to the youth and adult performers.

For about the cost of a movie ticket, this annual event provides a wonderful way for a family to spend an evening together. It is the oldest bluegrass concert in the Northwest Hills of Connecticut.

Bring a folding chair or a blanket to sit on. Attendees may bring their own refreshments or enjoy a large assortment of food and soft drinks available at the concession stand presented by Roxbury Creamery.

Parking is free and admission is $8 for adults and youths; children under 12 are free. The event will be held at Hurlburt Town Park on Apple Lane, just off Route 67 in Roxbury. Signs will be posted.

If the concert is postponed due to inclement weather, it will be presented the following day on Sunday, July 9, beginning at noon.

For further information, call the Roxbury Fire Department business office, at 860/355-6144.
