Newtown Girl Scouts Thinking Day Celebration

Girl Scout troops of Newtown came together on Friday night to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the town’s observance of Thinking Day, the annual Girl Scout event that features performances of international songs, dances, and skits.

Representing the countries of Japan, Romania, Turkey, India, Hungary, and more, 187 girls from 18 different troops ranging in age from kindergarten to ninth grade entertained and educated each other and the audience members about different parts of the world. One troop even went universal, representing Mars.

Along with the performances, the event also featured a silent auction as a family fundraiser to benefit Girl Scouts of Connecticut.

Co-chairwomen Cat Fedorcheck and Denise Rodriguez, along with their committee, secured donations from various Newtown Girl Scout troops and businesses to put together an array of baskets that netted more than $2,200 toward the fundraiser through the auction.
