Messages Of Cheer

To the Editor:

Our heartfelt “Thanks” to the good folk of Newtown for the communitywide support our nondenominational “Messages Of Cheer” program has been receiving. Because of their spirit we are continuing to collect and send on to the Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, DC, cards and letters reflective of the kind of solace and appreciation our wounded veterans of the Iraq-Afghan wars need to help them along as they convalesce. They show that a grateful nation acknowledges their sacrifices.

In particular we want to express our own appreciation for the impetus this worthwhile program has received from the Newtown Knights of Columbus, their Grand Knight Len Moritz and our Co-Chair Tim Reilly. Also for the spiritual and material help Rev Bob Weiss of St Rose Parish has given, together with his Religious Education Director Pam Arsenault. We are cognizant too of the input received from Janis Solheim and such organizations as the Girl and Boy Scouts, the Newtown High School Cheerleaders; as well as from all of the many individual contributing citizens of your town, young and old. Take pride in what you are doing; it is nothing short of simply marvelous!
