Music From The Cathedral Of San Marco

WATERBURY — The Waterbury Chorale will perform “A Venetian Christmas Music from the Cathedral of San Marco” at 8 pm on Saturday, December 13, at St John’s Episcopal Church, on the green in Waterbury.

The chorus, under the direction of Music Director Jonathan Babbitt, will sing works of Andrea and Giovanni Gabrieli, Claudio Monteverdi, and Giovanni Bassano, all of whom reveled in the polychoral styles of Venice in the 16th Century. This music is perfectly suited to the acoustical and architectural space of St John’s Church. Listeners will be treated to works sung from the chancel in front of them, the organ gallery behind them, and balconies on both sides.

Adding to the musical excitement will be the contributions of Waterbury Chorale Festival Brass and the mighty sound of the St John’s organ, played by Chorale Accompanist Joseph Jacovino.

Tickets are $18 in advance for adults and $20 at the door, and may be purchased by telephoning Carol Palmer at 264-7120 or Jean Schmidt at 203-755-2561. Tickets for children ages 12 and under are all $12.
