Bring The Family To WAA’s Next Opening Reception

WASHINGTON DEPOT — Illustrators are celebrated in a fun new show opening at Washington Art Association this month. The public, especially families, is invited to the opening reception on Saturday, May 27, from 3 to 5 pm, for “Illustrators,” an exhibition that will present works by six artists who create illustrations for children’s books.

Improvements in print technology have made it possible for illustrators to work in a variety of different ways, and the range of styles seen in illustrated books – particularly children’s books – is immense. Traditional approaches such as pen and ink, watercolor and colored pencil are still popular, as are techniques such as collage and assemblage and the use of computer-generated imagery.

These varied approaches and a marvelous level of humor are evident in the work of the six artists selected for the show, which will run until June 18. The illustrators featured are Carl Chaiet, Victoria Chess, Mercer Mayer, Lane Smith, Nancy Tafuri, and Mo Williams.

Copies of books by these artists will be available during the opening reception.

Gallery hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 10 am to 5 pm; and Sunday, noon to 5 pm. WAA’s gallery is within Bryan Place, on Route 47 in Washington Depot. For directions or additional information call 860-868-2878.
