Labor Day Parade Planning Begins
Labor Day Parade Planning Begins
By Nancy K. Crevier
The north winds may blow, and we may have snow, but the Labor Day Parade Committee is already geared up to plan for the 45th annual parade scheduled to step off September 4.
The committee met at The Villa on Riverside Road, Wednesday, March 1, for the second time this year to further discuss the selection of a parade theme and that of a grand marshal. Several ideas were bandied about and will be further explored. Residents of Newtown can expect an announcement of both theme and grand marshal within the next two months, said Brian Amey of the parade committee.
At this point, the committeeâs duties consist mainly of ironing out any glitches from the previous year and beginning the appeal to Newtown residents and businesses for funds. Previous personal donors to the parade will receive a letter of appeal in the near future, and in order to offset the nearly $20,000 cost of the annual event, it was suggested that a donation for business entries in the parade be solicited.
