Many Helped ‘Lose The Litter’

To the Editor:

I don’t know which was better, the rain that made us postpone Lose The Litter Day, or the day we held the event. May 5 was a beautiful day, and I would like to thank everyone who turned out on one of the best days of the year to help clean up Newtown.

There are many people to thank for making this possible. The borough let us raise the banner along Queen Street. Fred Hurley and the Highway Department provided the gloves and bags for the volunteers and let us leave the bagged trash at the Highway Department garage. The Board of Education allowed us to use the middle school property. The Newtown Bee helped make everyone aware of the event. The elementary schools and St Rose School also helped spread the word by sending out flyers. The Cub Scouts and the Daisy Scouts also helped. My fellow Lions made the event possible by cleaning up roads and performing the countless small tasks that needed to be done. Unfortunately, I won’t be able to individually thank all those who contributed to the success of this event. We continue to look forward to the day when Loose the Liter Day will not be necessary.

Sincerely,

Lincoln Sander
