TEXTILE MUSEUM FESTIVAL WILL OFFER CELEBRATION OF TEXTILES JUNE 2â3
AVV 4-6 #695336
WASHINGTON, D.C. â The Textile Museum will present a celebration of textiles, on Saturday, June 2, from 10 am to 4 pm, and Sunday, June 3, from 1 to 4 pm.
The annual festival explores the textile arts and cultures of the world through a multitude of activities and demonstrations in the museumâs exhibitions, historic buildings and garden.
Highlights include fiber artists from Springwater Fiber Workshop, the African American Quilters of Baltimore, and other local organizations to experience weaving, knitting, rug restoration, dyeing and more. Attendees can see and try out a variety of looms, including a special loom invented by a local weaver for blind users, based on the Braille typewriter. Watch sheep shearing and try your hand at spinning wool into yarn. Learn about natural dyes and create a red dye textile, inspired by textiles in the exhibition âRed.â
A slightly different selection of demonstrations and hands-on activities will be available on Sunday.
The museum is at 2320 South Street. For information, www.textilemuseum.org or 202-667-0441.
