Zest For Life Spread To Others
Robert Alan Benton, 71, of Danbury, died October 15 at Danbury Health Care Center after a courageous fight with lung cancer. Mr Benton was born in Greenwich, October 1, 1937, a son of Fred and Edith (Smith) Benton.
He moved to Hawleyville when he was 11 years old. Bob graduated from Newtown High School, Class of 1955, where he was active in sports and was known as âSpider No 2.â He was also a member of the Hayrakers band in high school and won the school talent show singing âCool Water.â During his younger years, Mr Benton attended Trinity Episcopal Church.
He worked for Castro Convertible for many years and then moved onto Ullman Devices of Ridgefield as shipping supervisor and had worked for them for the past 30 years. He was a member of the Greater Danbury Horseshoe Club and enjoyed going to Mohegan Casino.
Mr Benton greatly enjoyed all types of music, loved going to rock concerts, and dancing at area establishments. He was known as the gentle giant and for his zest for life. He brought a smile to everyone with whom he came into contact. Those who knew him will miss his bright blue eyes, gentle nature, and hearty laugh.
He leaves behind his two daughters, Brenda J. Benton and Yvonne R. Benton, both of Danbury; two brothers, Richard D. Benton of Hawleyville and Frederick W. Benton of Waldorf, Md.; a sister, Jacqueline Plancon and her husband, Andre, of Buckeye, Ariz.; two grandchildren, Rebekah and Josh Doty; several nieces and nephews and cousins; his former wives, Virginia and Elaine; and his devoted fiancée, MayMay Cheng of Newtown.
Funeral services were held October 18 in the Honan Funeral Home, Newtown. Interment was private.
