Special Weekend Events With Audubon Society

SOUTHBURY — Lillinonah Audubon Society has two special events planned for the second weekend of November. Both events are open to the public.

The group, which is based in Southbury, is planning a visit to Hammonassett State Park in Madison on Saturday, November 10. The hope is to see shore birds and anything else there is to be seen at this time of the year.

Participants should dress for the weather for it may be cold and windy and should bring binoculars, a lunch and something to drink. The group will meet at 8 am at the commuter parking lot off Exit 14 off I-84 and to plan to return no later than 2 pm. Call Ted Clark, 426-5435, to get onto the list of participants or for additional information. There is no charge.

The group’s annual Potluck Luncheon will be held the following day, Sunday, November 11, beginning at 1 pm. It will take place in the refurbished barn at Bent of the River Nature Center, 185 East Flat Hill Road in South Britain.

Hot and cold drinks will be provided. Participants will each bring a dish to share and their own place setting in the interest of ecology.

Following the luncheon, two nature walks will be offered. One, a short one, will go through the meadow, and the second, slightly longer, will follow the river. Both will be lead by a knowledgeable naturalist. Those who are planning to join the walks should dress for the weather and wear sturdy shoes.

Space at the lunch is limited; call Barbara Starr at 748-2599 for reservations.
