Great Arrangements

From Pre-Made Bouquets

The Town and Country Garden Club of Newtown held a members only workshop at the Senior Center on November 12 that was entitled “How to Make Great Arrangements Using Supermarket Bouquets.” Bonnie Johnson, who is a florist designer at Stew Leonard’s in Danbury, led the workshop.

Ms Johnson was once a graphic designer who worked for twenty years in package design, then decided to switch careers. She recently won the European Flower Cup held at the Jacob Javits Center in New York City sponsored by the Flower Council of Holland.

Ms Johnson arrived at the Senior Center with her car filled with buckets of flowers, greenery, containers, and oasis. Each club member was provided with a container, roses, and African greens. Ms Johnson modeled how to build an arrangement, and then members created their own.  Members were amazed to view the bouquets at the end of the session because each one created a different effect despite starting with the same floral material.

The garden club ladies not only enjoyed an instructive workshop, they also each went home with a beautiful arrangement.
