A Memorable Day

To the Editor:

On behalf of the Newtown Police Explorers, I would like to thank Newtown Police Officer John McCluskey for taking the Explorers to the 9/11 Memorial on April 29. It was an especially memorable day for all of us because Officer McCluskey is a former lieutenant with the New York City Police Department who was working that fateful day. Officer McCluskey took us not only to the 9/11 Memorial but also the New York City Police Museum, The Vietnam War Plaza, and Trinity Church.

The group of 19 that took the train to the city that day also included Officer McCluskey’s wife MaryAnn. MaryAnn shared her thoughts of that grim day with us while her husband was at work. Most of the Explorers were only in first or second grade at the time of the terrorist attack; so to have Officer McClusey’s firsthand account of the events that day that changed the course of our country forever was a powerful experience!

On behalf of the Newtown Explorers & Advisors

Maryhelen McCarthy

Newtown Police Officer

3 Main Street, Newtown                                                May 8, 2012
