Griffin Hospital Hosting ‘Women’s Day of Health’

DERBY — Encouraging women to love and take care of their bodies is the focus of the 2nd Annual Women’s Day of Health, which will be held from 8 am to 3 pm, Saturday, April 21, at Griffin Hospital, 130 Division Street.

Sponsored by Griffin Hospital’s Women and Heart Disease Committee, the event is “a day for women, by women,” featuring uplifting and educational presentations to help women be happier and healthier. Attendees can also make appointments for free blood pressure, diabetes, osteoporosis, and stroke screenings between 2:30 and 3:30 pm.

This year’s Women’s Day of Health’s keynote speaker, Delphine Geraci, RN, will present “Bringing Out the Aphrodite in You!” — a talk that encourages women to find the positives in themselves and grow from there.

The event also includes presentations on basic CPR instruction, preventing and detecting heart disease, acupuncture, bladder control issues and solutions, and lifestyle, diet, and medicinal changes that can help prevent disease.

The Women and Heart Disease Committee, consisting of members of the Valley Parish Nurse Program, health care professionals, and volunteers from throughout the community, was formed in 2005. The 2nd Annual Women’s Day of Health event is part of the committee’s focus on education, outreach, and prevention of heart disease.

The cost is $15 and includes breakfast and lunch. For more information or to register for the event and the free screenings, call 203-732-1137.
