Newtown Rotary Honors Students

For The Month Of October

Newtown Rotary, under the leadership of president Paul Lux, honored four students for the month of October. The students are nominated by their teachers and were introduced by Assistant Principal of Reed Intermediate School Tony Salvatore and Newtown High School teacher Doug Russell.

Reed sixth grader Robert Andreotta was nominated by his teachers Todd Stentiford and Tim McGuire because he has proved to be an exemplary student and cluster citizen. Robert is not only interested in his own personal success, but also in the achievements of his cluster mates. He leads by example with his conscientious, self directed, and dedicated nature toward academics, according to his teachers.

Robert is also involved in baseball, enjoys music, takes drum lessons, and loves to snowboard. He also takes on responsibilities at home by helping his younger sister and parents. His teachers sum up Robert by saying, “To put it simply, Robert does quality work because he is a quality person. It is a pleasure to have Robert in our class.”

Jane Ellen Anderson, a seventh grader at Newtown Middle School, is the oldest of three girls and is the daughter of Stephanie and Mark Anderson of Sandy Hook. She is an honor student who states that she loves the middle school because she enjoys her many different teachers and the opportunity to meet new friends.

Jane Ellen is a member of the NMS literary magazine staff and looks forward to its publication this May. For the past eight years Jane Ellen has taken dance classes. She has also participated in Girl Scouts for seven years, earning a Bronze Award. Jane Ellen is a member of the NMS orchestra and plays viola. Three times a year she enjoys the opportunity to perform with the Greater Bridgeport Youth Orchestra.

Jane Ellen loves to read and to spend time with her family. She especially enjoys vacationing with her family every summer. She would love to become a journalist when she gets older.

Her teachers Mr Girard, Mrs Farias, Mr SanAngelo,and Mrs Kirch are happy to select Jane Ellen as their Rotary Student of the Month.

Jacque Rosa is an eighth grade honor roll student from Newtown Middle School. She is the daughter of Anne and Flavio Rosa and has two brothers, Nick and Matt, and a pet bird named Dukie.

Jacque has been an active member of the Interact Club for the last two years and presents good ideas at the meetings. She participates in many activities sponsored by the club. Jacque is also a member of the school yearbook staff.

Outside of school Jacque assists with stable duty at the Governor’s Horse Guard where her father is a member of the Second Company. Swimming is a favorite sport of Jacque’s so she participates as a member of the Park and Recreation’s Torpedo Swim Team. She has also taken a babysitting course through the Park and Recreation department and puts those skills to good use. She volunteers at Head O’ Meadow’s Holiday Fair each year. In the future Jacque would like to become an elementary school teacher.

Jacque’s teachers Mr Chivinski, Mrs Liberty, Mrs Mulholland, and Mrs Sheehan remark that Jacque has a positive attitude, is a leader, and always helpful to peers. She is known for her kindness and fine work ethic. Her teachers are pleased to recognize Jacque for her outstanding character.

Allwa Thompson is a senior at Newtown High School. Allwa is an honor student who volunteers her time to tutor other students, especially in organizational skills. She also teaches Sunday School at Trinity Church.

Her teachers report that Allwa confronts those things that she finds most challenging with the determination to succeed and is a strong self advocate. She is planning to attend college and has special interests in the areas of early childhood and political science. Her teacher Doug Russell was pleased to nominate Allwa as student of the month.
