Richard C. Rockwell, 94, husband of Mildred (Stocks) Rockwell of Brushy Hill Road, Newtown, died on February 14 at Bethel Health Care.
Mr Rockwell was born in Greene, N.Y., on March 21, 1911, a son of Richard W. and Ann (McMoran) Rockwell. Mr Rockwell moved with his family in 1920 to Urbanna, Va., where his father managed a farm. In the late 1920s the family returned to New York state and farmed there.
Mr Rockwell met Mildred Stocks on a blind date in Newburgh, N.Y. It was love at first sight. They were married on March 27, 1936. In 1939, they responded to an advertisement for a farm manager in Newtown and moved there to work for H.L. Green.
Mr Rockwell purchased Green Oaks Farm on Brushy Hill Road following the death of Mr Green in 1952. Mr Rockwell was a dairy farmer until he retired in 1975.
Mr Rockwell was active in the Fairfield County Extension Service in 1940s and 1950s and was involved with the Agricultural Stabilization Service during the late 1960s and early 1970s. He was a member of the Farm Bureau.
In addition to his wife of almost 70 years, Mr Rockwell is survived by a son, George R. Rockwell of Newtown; a nephew, Gary Adams of New Fairfield; and several relatives in Virginia. He was predeceased by two sisters, Gladys Green of Urbanna, Va., and Dorothy Adams of Newtown.
Funeral Services were scheduled at Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street in Newtown, on Thursday, February 16, at 8 pm. Friends may call on Thursday from 5 to 8 pm. Interment will be in Newtown Village Cemetery in the spring
