Responsive Representatives

To the Editor:

I was thrilled to see the article about the Exit 11 interchange on the front page of last week’s Bee, because I am the Sandy Hook commuter whose letter (actually an email) started the whole string of correspondence.

Being that this is the first letter that I have ever written to my representative, I did not know what to expect from the office of Nancy Johnson. I figured some intern would send me a stock reply, the letter would be filed somewhere, and that would be the end of it. What happened was quite the opposite. Nancy Johnson and, in turn, Julia Wasserman, actually did something about my concern, and it ended up in The Bee.

Since it has been proven to me that our legislators really are listening to us, I think it’s not too much to ask all the hard-working, stressed-out, time-deprived people like myself who are fed up with sitting in traffic at the Exit 11 interchange to send an email, a letter, or make a phone call to either State Rep Julia Wasserman (PO Box 848, Sandy Hook, 800-842-1423) or James Byrnes, the Commissioner of the DOT (PO Box 317546, Newington, CT 06111).

You might also be surprised at what happens.
