For Workcamp Efforts
To the Editor:
On behalf of the 2011 Newtown Ecumenical Workcamp Students (NEWS), we would like to thank everyone who helped make our annual fundraising breakfast a very successful and entertaining event.
NEWS is an ecumenical group of 30 students from Newtown Congregational Church, St Rose Catholic Church, and the Newtown United Methodist Church. These teens, along with their 12 chaperones, will spend one week of their summer vacation in West Virginia helping Appalachiaâs poorest families. The goal is to make homes warmer, safer, and drier for needy families.
NEWS would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the St Rose Knights of Columbus members and the Newtown Congregational Church Menâs Group, who spent their Saturday morning preparing breakfast for over 200 guests. We applaud Mr J. Edwards, our emcee for the morning (and a former chaperone), for his continued support of the workcamp breakfast; it just wouldnât be the same without you. We appreciate the time and effort spent by our committee members and workcampers preparing for and managing this event. And we thank all of the families and friends who attended the Workcamp Breakfast in support of our mission.
