BPW: Networking For Community

Networking will be the theme of the Business and Professional Women (BPW) of Newtown meeting on Monday, February 5, at 6 pm at The Inn at Newtown.

Laura Mayer, co-president of Newtown BPW and owner of SOAR Consulting, will be discussing networking, but in a broader definition than the typical term used in the business world. Ms Mayer uses the book The Different Drum: Different Stages of Community by Scott Peck as a basis for much of her presentation, explaining how Mr Peck’s theories can be used to move a group beyond social function into becoming a personal, sharing entity.

Ms Mayer’s company does training and development for major food and pharmaceutical and cosmetic companies and has been teaching about Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulations for more than 15 years. She has a degree in theater, and a master’s degree in counseling. She has created a course that is based on The Path of Least Resistance by Robert Fritz. Ms Mayer believes the book teaches a thinking process that helps the reader understand how to work with tension to create what he or she really wants out of life.

Ms Mayer’s interactive program will show how a group can create a more personal community between its members, as well as selling itself.

Reservations for the dinner meeting are required by Friday, February 2, by calling Shelley Kappauf at 426-6362. Menu choices, $18, are grilled swordfish, tortellini with pesto cream sauce, or glazed ham with au gratin potatoes.
