The Journey

By Anna Hodge

I wonder why life is like a dark forest…

There are many rocks, sticks and leaves

You see so much around you

That sometimes you can’t see the

Shadows beyond the trees

You look around hoping for a trail

But there is nothing

Only more leaves

You will believe in other animals

Squirrels and bugs and birds

As vulnerable as you

But as you get deeper on your journey

You will learn to have faith in yourself too

You will have to hope and rely on those

Other than yourself

Because the journey much harder

You must only have faith

Relying on your family and friends is what

You will have to do

Because when you trust almost everyone around you

You can take another journey

Life can take you anywhere

You will grow to be very frail

With only a touch of strength

And when you try to protect

Yourself and others

You will always fail in different ways

The shadows beyond the trees on the journey

Try to become your friends

You will always try to push them away

But you will never, ever, ever lose them altogether

I wonder why life is like a journey

You always turn in a different direction

Hoping you have finally found your place

Like when you turn the bend on the path

Leading to the place you call home
