Local Students Are Gifted Young Musicians

In August The Greater Bridgeport Youth Orchestras held auditions for its their 2006-07 season.  Over 260 gifted young musicians in grades 5-12 from 30 communities where selected to participate in the four developmentally sequential orchestras: String, Concert, Symphony and Principal.

The members are now enthusiastically rehearsing for their opening concert to be performed on Sunday, November 12, at 3 pm, at the Klein Auditorium in Bridgeport.

The GBYO is proud to announce this season’s Newtown and Sandy Hook students:

Jane Ellen Anderson, Newtown Middle School, viola, Concert Orchestra;

Julie Ficks, Newtown Middle School, cello, Concert Orchestra;

Rachel Fintz, Newtown Middle School, bass, Concert Orchestra;

Joshua Fintz, Newtown High School, clarinet, Principal Orchestra;

Kai Hedin, violin, String Orchestra;

Irene Koh, Newtown High School, violin, Symphony Orchestra;

Alyssa Rodriquez, Newtown High School, violin, Concert Orchestra;

Calvin Song, Newtown High School, violin, Symphony Orchestra; and

David Wilkins, Newtown High School, violin, Principal Orchestra.
