Ballet Performance Will Showcase New Artistic Endeavors
(with photos)
The Marsha Ismailoff Mark School of Ballet will present its annual outdoor
performance of "Ballet in the Meadow" on Saturday and Sunday, June 5-6.
Performances take place in the field of the ballet school, at 57 Mt Pleasant
Road in Newtown. The school is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year.
The program will begin at 5:30 pm each afternoon. In the event of rain either
afternoon, rain date is the following day.
Shamil Yagudin, a dancer with The Bolshoi Ballet, Moscow, was in residence at
the school during March.
(Last November, Mrs Mark and Mr Yagudin presented the full-length ballet
Coppelia , with guest artists from the Bolshoi Ballet and Stanislavsky Theatre
Ballet companies. It is Mrs Mark's intention to bring the community another
world class production involving internationally acclaimed dancers from the
Bolshoi Ballet together with young aspiring dancers from surrounding
communities.)
Mr Yagudin conducted master classes at the school in March, and also worked
collaboratively with Mrs Mark on a future production of Le Fille Mal Gardee .
With music by Wilhehn Hertl and choreography by Jean Dauberval, La Fille Mal
Gardee was first presented at the Grand Theatre in Boudreau, France, on July
1, 1789. It made its Russian debut at the Bolshoi Theatre in 1864.
"Yesterday, as well as today and tomorrow, our youth strive and persevere for
their independence, as in La Fille Mal Gardee , when Lise defies her mother's
desires for selecting the proper husband," said Mrs Mark "This romantic comedy
is as enjoyable and delightful now as it was over 210 years ago."
"Ballet in the Meadow" will this year include excerpts from La Fille Mal
Gardee , together with original choreographed variations performed by the
Malenkee Ballet Repertoire Company.
Malenkee is an innovative ballet company that was formed under the Marsha
Marks School of Ballet umbrella in 1980. The company consists of dancers from
the ballet school. Malenkee is well known for its performances in area schools
and libraries that help introduce young children to the world of ballet.
Admission to "Ballet in the Meadow" is free of charge. Because it is an
outdoor performance, the audience should bring chairs or blankets for seating.
Please note, video recording is not allowed during the performances.
