The Real Needs Of The Town

To the Editor:

Once again the budget did not pass on the first vote. And for once I am glad. I am tired of our town officials threatening us to vote for a poorly planned budget.

A new town hall? No matter what we vote, a new town hall? We don’t need a new town hall. We need to address the deficits in our educational system. Overcrowding in the high school. Cutbacks in staff. We are now paying for our children to participate in sports, music programs, and clubs. But we can afford a new town hall?

Who made this decision? The first selectman? He won’t get my vote next election. The appointed Board of Finance members? If this is the case, our first selectman should start looking for a new job.

Our budget should address the real needs of our town. And the most important of these is the best possible education for all of our children. Not a bigger better office with a view for paid town officials and staff.
