Ashlar Hosting Free Health & Wellness Program At Reed School

In celebration of its 25 years of caring, Masonicare’s Ashlar of Newtown is pleased to sponsor an exciting free program for the community on Wednesday, September 24, at 7 pm, in the Cafetorium at Reed Intermediate School, 3 Trades Lane.

Entitled “The Vision of Two Leaders: Improving Health and Wellness for the Future,” the program will feature Susan L. Davis, RN, EdD, president and CEO of St Vincent’s Medical Center and St Vincent’s Health Services, and John M. Murphy, MD, executive vice president of Danbury Hospital. These leading health care professionals will share their thoughts and vision for the future of health and wellness and how individuals may improve their quality of life in coming years.

Following the presentation, program attendees will have the opportunity to participate in a question and answer period.

All attendees are also invited to a preprogram reception at 6 pm to enjoy light refreshments and visit with health care professionals from Danbury Hospital, St Vincent’s Medical Center, and Ashlar of Newtown who will provide valuable information about the health care services and programs they offer to the community.

Reservations are requested. For additional information or to make your reservation, call 364-3127.

Lunch And Learn

Do you have pain when walking?  Or when you sit for prolonged periods of time?

In related news, a free Lunch and Learn Program for the community entitled “Leg Pain — What Can Cause It and What Can Help” will be held on Wednesday, September 17, from 12:30 to 2 pm in the Lodge Room at Lockwood Lodge Assisted Living at Masonicare’s Ashlar of Newtown.

Janice Danyew, RN, regional director of home care for Masonicare’s Connecticut VNA, will present an overview of the circulatory system and focus on problems that can develop with leg circulation as a result of a buildup of plaque in the blood vessels.

She will discuss what individuals can do to help lessen the risk of developing peripheral vascular disease and a serious condition known as deep vein thrombosis.

Ashlar of Newtown sponsors the Lunch and Learn series to provide the public with important and timely health and wellness information. There is no fee for the program, which includes a complimentary lunch served at 12:30, followed by the presentation at 12:45.

Seating is limited, however, so anyone planning to attend should call 364-3113 to make a reservation.

A tour of Ashlar of Newtown’s Short-term Rehabilitation Unit and new Outpatient Rehab Unit will be offered at the conclusion of the program
