Navy ROTC Scholarships Available

BOSTON — A free college education is available through the Navy Reserve Officers Training Corps (NROTC) Scholarship Program. Qualified individuals can compete for four year college scholarships valued at $180,000 at top universities around the country and go on to lead in diverse careers such as aviation, submarine, surface ships, medical, intelligence, and Navy SEALS.

“Education opportunities are out there for a number of people,” said Lt Cameron Mount, NROTC program coordinator. For example, “If a senior high school student continues in the top ten percentile of his or her class, then they’ve already paved the road to a challenging but rewarding future as a Navy officer.”

Lt Mount is assigned to Navy Recruiting District New England (NRDNE) and validates scholarships awarded to New England and Eastern New York State students.

Lt Mount said, “NROTC is a great means for getting an education. It’s very attainable for competitive applicants who are looking for rewarding careers. During interviews, applicants are graded on how well they work toward group goals, communicate effectively, and demonstrate intellectual curiosity.”

Applications can be submitted online at nrotc.navy.com or by contacting a NROTC recruiter at 617-753-3041. While there are competitive academic and physical fitness requirements, there is no commitment incurred just for applying. The NROTC scholarship pays all tuition, books, and provides a monthly stipend for other expenses.

Typically, more than 50 percent of qualified applicants have been selected from the New England area. Last year, 80 applicants were selected to receive four-year NROTC Scholarships.
