George L. OâBrien, Jr
George L. OâBrien, Jr, 67, of Church Hill Road, Sandy Hook, formerly of Greenwich, died March 18 in the Bethel Health Care Facility, Bethel.
Mr OâBrien was born in New York City, May 31, 1933, son of the late George and Margaret (Zwaller) OâBrien. He is a graduate of Greenwich High School. A graduate of Lehigh University, he attended the university on a football scholarship.
In 1955, he was commissioned an ensign in the US Naval Reserve, and served three years in the Navy.
Following his discharge, he returned to Greenwich, where he owned and operated a family construction business.
He is a past president of the Greenwich Lions Club, past president of the Greenwich Builders Association, and an honored member of the Greenwich Old Timers Athletic Association. He was also active in other community affairs.
He was an avid sports enthusiast, especially in fishing and boating.
He is survived by his wife, the former Dale Breuel of Greenwich; five children; four granddaughters; a brother, James OâBrien of Greenwich; and a sister, Barbara Thode of South Carolina.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St Rose of Lima Church, Newtown, on Friday, March 23, at 10:30 am.
Contributions may be made in his memory to Connecticut Hospice, Branford, Conn.
Arrangements are by Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown.
