'South Pacific' Standard Flower Show, May 18-22
âSouth Pacificâ Standard Flower Show, May 18-22
The Garden Club of Newtown will present a Small Standard Flower Show with the theme âSouth Pacificâ at Cyrenius H. Booth Library. The show will be free and open to the public Friday, May 18, to Monday, May 22.
The Bali Hai design section will include three classes, âSome Enchanted Evening,â âYounger Than Springtimeâ and âWonderful Guy.â The Bloody Mary design section classes are There Is Nothing Like a Dame and Wash That Man Right Out Of My Hair. Each of these classes has requirements for a specific design, as planned by the Flower Show Committee, and there will be four arrangements in each class.
Each club member designer will create her own original fresh flower arrangement within the design division rules.
There is also a Horticulture Division to encompass container grown plants as well as stems from blooming perennials and bulbs and tree and shrub branches.
Sections in the Horticulture Division will also continue the South Pacific theme, including âSofter Than Starlight Are You,â âSheâs a Cookie Who Can Cook You âtil Youâre Done,â âIâm As Normal As Blueberry Pie,â âIâm As Trite And As Gay As a Daisy,â and âOne Hundred and One Pounds of Fun, Thatâs My Little Honey Bun.â
The Flower Show Committee is chaired by Deborah Osborne.
Copies of the schedule will be available for the public to see the details of the rules and requirements as well as the ribbon winners and award decisions made by nine judges from Federated Garden Clubs of Connecticut.
âSouth Pacificâ will be staged in the circulation desk area of the library, 25 Main Street. The Garden Club of Newtown invites everyone with an interest in flower arrangement and horticulture to stop by and see the show.
