Computer Classes For Age 50+ Adults

DANBURY — The Danbury SeniorNet Learning Center at Danbury Senior Center will be offering classes to introduce more area adults (age 50 and over) to the computer and Internet.

Three “Intro to Computers” courses will start the week of April 23. Classes will meet Tuesdays at 9 am, Wednesday at 1 pm, and Thursday at 6:30 pm, and continue for eight weeks. Classes last about two and one-half hours each. Computer experience is not necessary.

“Intro to Internet (part 1),” lasting four weeks, will start on Wednesday, April 25, at 6:30 pm. “Intro to Internet (part 2),” also a four week course, will begin Wednesday, May 23, at 6:30 pm. These Internet courses require basic computer and mouse skills.

“Quicken 2001,” a new eight-week offering, will begin on Saturday, April 28, at 9:30 am. Basic computer and mouse skills are required.

The course fee is $25, plus $30 annually to join SeniorNet if not currently a member. The fees include a workbook, programmed diskette, and the use of center computers between classes.

Registration will take place on Saturday, March 24, at the center at 80 Main Street. Doors open and registration begins at 10 am and concludes at noon. No telephone or mail-in registrations will be accepted.

A check or money order is required for payment, and students should bring any current SeniorNet membership card with them if they are already members.

SeniorNet first offered courses in Danbury in January 1999. Since then over 500 students have learned computer basics in the hands-on, specially paced workshops. Classes are limited to 12 students, each sitting at a computer, with a trained coach for every two students. Two fully qualified instructors lead the all-volunteer training team.

The center uses up-to-date computer technology – Microsoft Works 2000 operating on a networked Windows 98SE platform.

SeniorNet is a non-profit organization with 190 learning centers in the US. Its mission is to assist mature adults with learning computer technology to enrich the quality of their daily lives. The organization has over 37,000 members.
