*The long, long, long awaited full CD by Alan Morgan, Brian Morgan and Andy Spencer â collectively known as TREBLEHOOK â has been recorded, remixed, mastered, pressed, and is now official.
The work is called Hooked, and the band will be hosting a CD release party this weekend in Newtown. Doors will open at 8 pm on Friday, June 16, at The Fireside Inn for the big event, which will include plenty of live music by the guys. The album contains 12 tracks, with songs written by all three members of this band.
*Tickets have gone on sale for a band that was once referred to as a leader of the Second British Invasion back in the Eighties. DURAN DURAN â with original members Simon LeBon, Nick Rhodes and John Taylor â will be at the Oakdale Theatre in Wallingford on Sunday, Augsut 6. Showtime is 7:30 pm and right now it looks like there wonât be an opener for that show. Tickets are $30 and $40 apiece and available directly from the Oakdaleâs box office (203/265-1501) or online at Tickets.com.
*BON JOVI is back on the charts with its latest release. On the UK charts, anyway. The New Jersey boys released their new album, called Crush, on June 4 and the album went straight to #1 on the Official UK Album Chart. The bandâs first US single, âItâs My Life,â was officially released this week, but it looks like itâs going to be some time before we see JON BON JOVI, et al, in concert in our area any time soon. The band begins touring for Crush on June 24 with a show in Bonnert Springs, Kansas, and then plays in Indiana on July 3. After that itâs overseas for JBJ and the boys, hitting Japan, Finland, Sweden, Germany, Ireland, et al⦠Touring dates continue to September 10, but no return time for the US has been announced yet.
*SHAWN COLVIN, on the other hand, is coming into Connecticut this summer. Colvinâs summer tour began June 10 in Iowa. The performer continues to tour on the strength of her October 1998 release, Holiday Songs and Lullabies. In addition to her own headlining tour, Colvin will be opeing six STING concerts this summer, which is how Connecticut fans will have their chance to see her. Colvin will be opening the Sting show at The Meadows in Hartford on Wednesday, July 28.
Her closest solo date right now appears to be on July 1, when she will take part in a free show with BILLY BRAGG at New York Cityâs Battery Park. Sheâll be back in our wide-ranging neck of the woods on August 5, which also really isnât a solo date: Colvin has a set at the Newport Folk Festival in Rhode Island that day.
Until next week, Iâll be seeing you... on the road.
