ON THE ROAD/SHANNON HICKS
GRADY McAULIFFE, the lead singer of the local band MIND TYDES, will be
performing a solo acoustic set at Rathskeller in Southbury on Friday, March
26. Showtime is 9 pm. The Rathskeller is at 88 Main Street South in Southbury
(from Newtown, take Exit 15 off I-84 East and turn left onto Route 67; go
straight through the first light, then left at the second onto Main Street
South; turn right at the next light, and it's in the building on that corner
[opposite Leo's Restaurant], on the lower level).
Grady will also be appearing at CBGB's Gallery, 313 Bowery Street in New York
City, on Tuesday, March 30, at 9 pm, performing original acoustic songs.
Final reminder: SGT SCAGNETTI, the 7-piece rock/ska band out of New Haven,
will be at The Garage -- a/k/a the Newtown teen center on Church Hill Road --
on Friday, March 26. Showtime is 7 pm, and cost is $7 at the door. Spastic
Habits and 5 Knuckle Shuffle both have opening sets.
Music returns to Borders in Danbury this weekend, when 1998 Lilith Fair
Acoustic Talent Search winner EDEN WHITE performs on Saturday at 8 pm. Ms
White is touring this season to continue supporting her debut album, called
This Is The Way... The musician has been called "the female BILLY JOEL when he
was in top form," according to her record company. Not surprisingly, the first
records White purchased while growing up -- after learning how to play piano
at age 4 -- were indeed those of The Piano Man. Showtime is 8 pm, in the book
store's cafe area, and there is no charge to attend.
PETER OBRE returns to Mary Hawley Inn in Newtown for performances in the inn's
pub area during April. The Newtown guitarist will be at the Main Street inn on
April 2, 16 and 30.
radio 104 has announced its annual Modern Rock the Earth Day in the Park
concert, which this year will be Sunday, April 18. The free concert will again
be in Bushnell Park in Hartford, which is a great location for the outdoor
event. Among the bands on this year's bill will be MIGHTY PURPLE, the New
Haven band still celebrating its first major label release; SHAWN MULLINS, who
will be performing an acoustic set; FISHBONE ("Party At Ground Zero"); STRETCH
PRINCESS and ACCIDENTAL GROOVE. The concert goes on rain or shine, and a word
of advice if it rains in the days before the concert: wear shoes that you
don't care about getting dirty! In years past, the grounds of the park have
turned into mud pits in more than a few spots, which doesn't hurt the goodwill
of the day's environmental message, but will ruin good shoes if you're dumb
enough to wear them.
Until next week, I'll be seeing you... on the road.
