Elizabeth       Dawson Durgy

Elizabeth Dawson Durgy, 90, of Bethel, died April 12, at Pope John Paul II Center for Health Care. She was predeceased by her husband, Richard Clarke Durgy, on January 26. She was the mother of Anne Warford of Newtown.

Mrs Durgy was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on April 15, 1914, the daughter of N. Milton Dawson and Victoria (Nelson) Dawson.

After graduation from Danbury Normal School in 1933, she served as a dedicated educator in the Bethel schools and later taught at St Joseph School in Brookfield. She also was an occupational therapist and served as director of admissions at Danbury Hospital.

Music and writing were an important part of her life and she was an accomplished violinist and pianist, as well as a champion crossword puzzle solver. As a volunteer for the Bethel VNA and the Bethel Library, she also enjoyed entertaining others with her skills as a palmist. Whether writing, reading, or listening, whether poetry, prose, or song, Elizabeth loved words.

Donations in memory of Elizabeth Durgy may be made to the Bethel Visiting Nurse Association, One School Street, Bethel CT 06801.
