âStations Of The Cross,â In 14 Abstractions
LITCHFIELD â The Marie Louise Trichet Gallery at Wisdom House announces the opening of the exhibit âIn Extremis: The Stations of the Cross, 14 Abstractions,â by Cornwall artist Harvey Offenhartz, on Saturday, April 9. The reception will run from 3:30 to 5:30 pm. The show will remain on view until May 7.
The exhibit is a series of abstract paintings inspired by the Stations of the Cross, which is a recounting of the journey of Jesus of Nazareth to his death of crucifixion.
The series was completed in 1995, first shown in the gallery at The Canterbury School and then in the Marie Louise Trichet Gallery in 1996. The gallery is showing this series again during the Lent season to provide a contemplative experience during this liturgical season.
A painter, art director, and graphic designer, Mr Offenhartz was the founder and president of Harvey Offenhartz Inc, a visual communications company in New York City, from 1968 until 1993. He was a founding member of Artwell Gallery in Torrington, and is now a member emeritus of its board of directors.
He has been a member of the exhibition committee of The Marie Louise Trichet Gallery at Wisdom House since its inception in 1994. He has had 15 solo shows of his paintings in New York City and Connecticut. He lives full-time in Cornwall, where he paints, draws, and develops his art.
The public is invited to an artistâs talk on Saturday, April 9, at 3:45 pm, when Mr Offenhartz shares his journey in the creation of the series. A reception will follow.
Gallery hours are Monday through Saturday, 10 am to 4 pm.
