American Legion Auxiliary

Says Thank You

To the Editor:

The George A. Powell, Sr, Auxiliary Unit #202 would like to say thank you to the people of Newtown as well as The Newtown Bee and its staff. Since the unit started in 1995 we have received much support in our efforts.

The Bee has always published our articles and been there to give us recognition. This is not so in all town papers, and it is much appreciated by us.

The school system allows us to present our “Flag History” program to the third grades. Other legion posts and units are amazed at how the program was allowed and accepted. Most school systems are not as receptive. Our thanks to Dr Kuklis, the principals, the teachers, the schedulers, and the children who always give us a warm welcome and make it fun.

We would also like to thank all of the people who generously contribute to our Poppy Drive each year and to Stop & Shop, Grand Union, and Newtown Hardware, who allow us to set up at their stores. As in the past, this year’s donations exceeded last year’s. All monies raised with poppies go only to veterans’ programs.

The Auxiliary is grateful to be established in a town that is open-minded and gives such support to its veterans’ organizations. Our heartfelt thanks and gratitude to all who care about who we are, and what we do.

Unit #202 President,

Alice Saxton

Tinkerfield Road, Newtown                                         August 30, 2000
