Informational Meeting Set On Neighborhood Pollution
The town has scheduled an informational meeting for the public discussion of
well water contamination in the area of Appleblossom Lane, Dogwood Terrace and
Cedar Hill Road.
The session is slated for Thursday, August 15, at 7:30 pm in the Alexandria
Room at Edmond Town Hall.
In a draft report, an environmental consulting firm is recommending that
United Water's public water supply system be extended to serve residents whose
domestic water wells have been tainted by the industrial solvent
tetrachloroethylene (PCE).
Depending upon how many homes in the general area are provided with public
water, SEA Consultants, Inc, of Rocky Hill estimates it would cost between
$1.74 million and $2.4 million.
Representatives of the town Health Department, the state Department of
Environmental Protection, the consultants and First Selectman Robert Cascella
are expected to attend the August 15 session.
Health Director Mark Cooper said residents of the affected area will soon
receive a newsletter updating them on the results of a study into the water
pollution problem.
