The Legendary Victor Borge

Victor Borge began his performing career with a piano debut in 1926 at the age of 17. For eight decades he was never out of the spotlight. “The Great Dane,” as the beloved international humorist and musician was known, died on December 23, 2000, just a little over a week shy of his 92nd birthday.

As a tribute to Mr Borge and his popular career as an international humorist and musician, Connecticut Public Television (CPTV) will premiere The Legendary Victor Borge, airing on CPTV on Saturday, January 20, at 4:15 pm. CPTV is on Charter Communications Channel 12.

The program, produced by PBS in December 2000, features a smorgasbord of comedy and music from the Borge archives, including never-before-broadcast Borge routines. A series of contemporary performance and archival clips showcase the late Mr Borge’s incredible musical talents, as both a pianist and conductor.

The program also contains such classic comedy bits as “Phonetic Pronunciation,” “Inflationary Language,” “The Timid Page Turner,” and many more.

As Itzsak Perlman, host of The Legendary Victor Borge, notes, “All of Borge’s hilarious routines ring true because they’re all based in reality. He takes a real situation – like accompanying a singer – and turns it into a unique comedy masterpiece.

“Victor Borge brought happiness and laughter to millions of people around the world for more than 70 years. He touches my heart and funny bone and has been a major influence to generations of musicians and comedians,” Mr Perlman added.
