A Fresh Perspective For The Board of Finance

To the Editor:

I’d like to introduce myself to the readers who don’t already know me. I’m Sandy Roussas, and I’m running for Board of Finance. I came to Newtown 12 years ago when I married my husband, Nick.  Newtown had been his home for 15 years, and I chose to make it mine.  We decided that when the time was right, we would raise our family here in Newtown because it offered us a good quality of life but was still affordable.   I graduated Pace University in 2003 and Quinnipiac University School of Law in 2006.   Today, I’m a senior litigation associate in a mid-size law firm in New Haven, Neubert, Pepe & Monteith, P.C.  In my practice, I defend hospitals and individual health care providers in malpractice matters.  I also have experience in litigating contract disputes and other commercial matters.  I am proud mom to Eleni and Petros and giving back to the community has never been more important to me.

What is my vision?  Make Newtown affordable for every resident and taxpayer.  For the young, new families that looked to settle in a picturesque town with an excellent school system.  For the empty nesters who want to enjoy a quiet suburban life. For the seniors who have chosen Newtown as their retirement home or have lived here long enough for Newtown to become their place of retirement.  Our duty and obligation is to all these people.

What can you expect from me?  I hope to bring a fresh perspective to the Board of Finance. As a working mother of young children, I understand the importance of hard work, balance and making difficult choices. There is not one single issue facing our town that stands alone. Every problem requires contemplation, collaboration and cooperation between the different boards in our town for a successful resolution.  You can expect from me a reasoned approach to every fiscal problem we face.  I am stepping up to the plate with a clean slate.  I have no mandate and no motivation other than to work as hard as I can in the service of our residents’ best interests.  If elected, my pledge is to contemplate, collaborate and cooperate as a member of the Board of Finance.  I promise to listen to every voice and to work towards goals that will benefit all residents.  Newtown needs a balanced, reasoned and fact-based approach to deal with our fiscal issues and my demonstrated hard work and experience is an exact fit for that need.  I ask for your trust and for your vote.

If there is any additional information that I can provide to assist your decision in choosing the right candidate, I’m happy to provide it.  Please contact me by email: sandyroussas@gmail.com or visit my Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/roussasforBOF.
