Riding a five-game winning streak into a road contest with Bunnell of Stratford on April 27, Newtown High School's baseball team fell behind by a trio of runs twice - 4-1 and 6-3 - before rallying to outslug the Bulldogs 13-10.

Newtown scored a run in the fourth and two in the fifth to tie the game at 6-6, then erupted for five in the sixth inning to take the lead for good. Connor Barrett drove in three runs and Mason Melillo and Jack Procaccini each knocked in a pair. Sam Czel had a hit and he and Procaccini both scored three runs. Jake Oliger had four hits and scored twice.

Oliger, Procaccini, and Eugine Citrano all delivered doubles. Citrano, Czel, Lucas O'Brien, and Dan Pearson all knocked in runs.

In a home contest against Weston, at Fairfield Hills the next day, Newtown saw its winning ways come to an end - but not without a final-inning rally that fell just short. Weston defeated Newtown for the second time this spring, coming from behind and then holding on in a 5-4 nail-biter. A pair of Newtown errors led to two unearned runs in the defeat. Newtown stands at 8-4 overall.

The Nighthawks jumped out to an early 3-0 lead with a run in the first and two more in the third inning. Weston scored twice in each the fourth and fifth innings to claim a 4-3 lead, then tacked on what proved to be a crucial insurance run in the top of the seventh inning as the Trojans capitalized on a two-base throwing error.

In the bottom of the seventh, Oliger doubled to right-center field leading off. With two outs, Melillo beat out an infield single, and Procaccini scorched a grounder that made its way through the infield and plated Newtown's fourth run and put base runners on the corners. Weston pitcher Zack Clevenger ended the game with a strikeout.

Procaccini knocked in two runs and Pearson and Melillo drove home runs. Czel, Melillo, and Oliger each had two hits; Czel and Oliger had doubles.

Newtown pitcher Andrew Ross went five innings, allowed just two hits, but surrendered four runs, three of which were earned. Ross also walked three and struck out six. Jason Hebner allowed a hit, an unearned run, walked one, and struck out four in two innings of relief work.
