I read Jim Gaston’s letter supporting Rob Blanchard and found the way Mr. Blanchard’s connection to Newtown was presented somewhat disingenuous. Mr. Gaston repeatedly describes Mr. Blanchard as a “neighbor” and emphasizes his connection to “our communities” and his decision to put down “permanent roots” in Newtown. But the relevant context is that Mr. Blanchard is a very recent Newtown resident. Frankly, I have food in my refrigerator that has been in Newtown longer than he has.

Also -- Joseph Gormley, a Republican from Newtown, was a state senator in the late 1940s/early 1950s. Rob Blanchard has lived in the 28th Senate District for five years -- longer than has your preferred candidate.

Um. Saying she has "lived in Newtown for years," is an interesting attempt to make a longtime resident out of someone who has been in town two years. C'mon, Steve.

There has been plenty of vetted research conducted on the correlation between the states with strict gun laws and those same states having the lowest rates of gun violence, death and injury….including Connecticut. Strong gun laws work. And law abiding citizens still get to legally have their guns, with no more difficulty that it is to obtain a drivers license or register a car.

Look At The Record

The author's comment "And last, Michele understands that our state needs to control what is built and where." says everything voters need to know. Land use decisions belong to Newtown residents through our local elected and appointed land use commissions who actually live here—not bureaucrats in Hartford. Local control matters, and we shouldn't elect a representative who will cede our town's future to state mandates. Just one more reason to support Mitch.
