Ed Randall, longtime New York radio and television personality, published author, and founder of Ed Randall’s Fans for the Cure (www.fans4thecure.org), will host an All-Star Wiffle Ball tournament at Newtown Youth Academy Sports & Fitness Center on Tuesday, September 17.

The tournament is intended to raise money to support awareness of prostate cancer and to educate the public about cutting edge techniques in treatment, prevention, and detection.

Among former Major League Baseball all-stars attending the tournament are Rick Sutcliff, a current ESPN analyst, who spent a large part of his career with the Chicago Cubs; Doug Glanville, who played for the Philadelphia Phillies and is now also an ESPN analyst; and Willie Upshaw, manager of the Bridgeport Bluefish, and former member of the Toronto Blue Jays.            

The All-Stars are looking forward to interacting with the teams, including the youth players, as well as adults. Donations come from both local and regional retailers, including Wiffle Ball, which is providing all supplies for this event. A silent auction and meet and greet will also be part of the evening’s festivities.

A youth tournament will run from 6 to 8 pm, with 10-14-year old and 15-18-year old age brackets. An adult tournament will follow, from 8 to 9:30 pm.

Cost is $100 per team, and there is limit of ten teams per bracket.

All proceeds from fan donations and from a silent auction will benefit Ed Randall’s Fans for The Cure. Suggested donation for spectators is $10.
